Adverse events related to patient care or involving patients will unfortunately happen. These situations are difficult for everyone involved and can lead to claims against the veterinarian or the practice. We will discuss the most common causes of veterinary malpractice claims and Board complaints and what can be done to help avoid claims. Closed claims will be used as examples. We will also review some tips to help avoid claims and how to protect yourself if ever faced with a malpractice claim or license complaint.
